2025 GBCI Board expresses Sincere Appreciation
After nearly two decades of service to USGBC, today we received a letter from the 2025 GBCI Board of Directors Chairperson wherein the board expresses sincere appreciation.
“The Board expresses sincere appreciation” was shared by our Founding Principal, Daniel A. Huard, LEED Fellow, IWBI Commissioner, PMP with both an expression of gratitude and accomplishment as he quietly read the letter near the team in the office today. You see we know that he is “The Godfather of Sustainability” yet he is always humble and does not speak of his contributions and accomplishments in the office on a daily basis.

As Daniel handed over the letter we took a good look at it. It was on Green Business Certification Institute letterhead, yes that same entity who administers LEED Building Certifications, WELL Building Certifications and several others globally. Further review sees it signed by George C. Bandy II, Chairperson of the GBCI Board of Directors, most people know him as George Bandy Jr., Chief Sustainability Officer of Andersen Corporation. Daniel and George have a friendship that goes back well over a dozen years even prior to when George was elected US Green Building Council Board of Directors “2013 Chair-Elect”, meaning George would ascend to and did in fact become the 2014 USGBC Board of Directors Chairperson. We posted earlier this year when George was re-elected for his second one-year term as the 2025 Chairperson of the GBCI Board of Directors.
We wanted to share the full contents of the letter yet Daniel only agreed to a short excerpt of the letter dated December 18, 2025:
Dear Daniel,
In my capacity as GBCI Board Chair I would like to convey the Board’s sincere appreciation for your leadership and guidance in overseeing the 2025 LEED Fellow Evaluation Committee nominee reviews.
We recognize the significant time and effort this process requires. Your commitment to uphold the highest standards of LEED-related mastery and exceptionality helps ensure the integrity and prestige of the LEED Fellow designation ……
The letter goes on with the same level of professionalism including “… for helping us recognize and celebrate the remarkable professionals selected for the Class of 2025. …”
Daniel A. Huard, LEED Fellow, IWBI Commissioner, PMP is Canada’s first and as of yet only LEED Fellow of Native American – Indigenous descent. He served the global LEED Fellow Evaluation and Selection Committee – Executive Board for a total of three years appointed in 2022 to serve for 2023, became full Chairperson in 2024 and served as Chairperson again in 2025 at the request of GBCI’s Board of Directors. When we asked him if he was sad to walk away he shared “I informed George during Greenbuild 2025 in Los Angeles that Governance for the LEED Fellow program was a key focus for me in 2025 and our bylaws share I am at the end of my term. George replied we still need your leadership and help, to which I replied, George I am not giving up on providing positive contributions to the planet. George just gave me his trademark smile to my response.”. Daniel then provided ‘I saw George several times during Greenbuild and as well at the Leadership Awards as well.’

We add that at the Leadership Awards Daniel was also recognized as part of the team who received the 2025 Malcolm Lewis IMPACT! Award. The award celebrates volunteer efforts from across the U.S. that advance green buildings and communities.
